Grand Bay
Grand Bay, known by locals for it’s night life, was the first area of the Island to experience the tourism surge.  Today, Grand Bay is the main resort area on the Island offering tourists luxury accommodations as well as lush beaches, unique shops, restaurants, bars and discos.  Tourists as well as locals, particularly enjoy the night life in Grand Bay.  The area comes alive at night with great cuisine and plenty of entertainment options.

Triolet Shivala
Triolet Shivala, a breathtaking village, is the Island’s longest community. Visitors have the pleasure of viewing the Maheswarnath, the Island’s largest Hindu Temple during their visit to the Village.  This place of worship was built in 1819 in honor of the gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesha. 

 
   

Balaclava Ruins
The Balaclava Ruins provide insight to the Island’s deep history.  Visitors will find the remains of the Old Balaclava Estate as well as ruins from ancient forts and early Island settlements.  Picturesque sea walls are also part of the charm of this historic sight.

Labourdonnais Orchards
Labourdonnais Orchards covers 50 hectares and have an array of tropical fruits and exotic flowers.  The best way to tour the lush orchards is by bicycle.  The smell of the orchard is said to be sensational.  Tourists will get to see citrus fruits, pineapple fields, mango and guava trees, bananas and coconuts.  As an added bonus guests can purchase delectable preserved fruits and jams to take with them. 

East

Flacq Market
The Flacq market is located in Flacq, one of the most important and beautiful villages on the Island of Mauritius.  Flacq covers 298 square kilometers and has 130,000 residents.  Flacq Market is an open air market which attracts locals and tourists alike.  It is known for being bright and festive and for its great prices.

Waterpark Leisurs Village
The Waterpark Leisure Village is one of Maritius’s fun filled attractions that is family oriented.  All ages will enjoy this tropical oasis park.   There are giant water slides, small slides, splash areas and even a wave pool.  Areas are located throughout the complex allowing places to lounge for those who prefer to relax and enjoy the quiet.  There are also plenty of dining options available, where everything from snacks to tasty local cuisine is served. 

South East

Mahebourg
Mahebourg is a fishing village nestled on Grand Port Bay.  It is home to a naval museum and thought to be where the first settlers landed and set foot on the Island.  It is a charming village rich in Mauritius culture and history.
 

Isle Aux Aigrettes
Isle Aux Aigrettes is a very important conservation site.  It is located 900 meters off the south east coast and is about 25 hectares.  In 1965 it was declared a nature preserve and the Isle is used to protect Mauritius’s Natural Resources and endangered species.  The Isle is home to some very rare bird species including the rare pink pigeon and the phelsuma.

Domaine du Chasseur Game Park and Reserve
The Domaine du Chasseur Game Park and Reserve is 100 hectares of breathtaking natural landscape.  It boats 30 km of nature trails where visitors can spot stags, monkeys, and a variety of endangered birds.   Hiking and mountain biking are popular at the Reserve.  The Reserve is also home to a rustic restaurant that serves up traditional game dishes for patrons to enjoy.  While dining, visitors will have incredible panoramic view of the sea.

Dutch Ruins
The Dutch Ruins is thought to bethe ruins of the oldest settlement on the Island.   Excavation is currently underway in hopes of uncovering more of Mauritius’s rich history.

West

Casela Yemen Nature Escapade and Leisure Park
When first opened, Casela Nature Escapade and Leisure Park was known for its birds. Today the park is home to approximately 1500 birds from 500 different species that come from 5 different continents.  Over the years this lush park has expanded and now features other animals including the native java deer, zebras, monkeys, antelope, fish ponds and fauna.   One of the more recent editions takes visitors for a walk with lions. Throughout the park visitors will find rustic kiosks that boast stunning views of the animals and the western coast line of the Island.  The park is also known for viewing stunning sunsets.  Visitors of all ages will enjoy the 30 minute safari adventure while young visitors will enjoy the kid’s corner which houses a petting zoo and a miniature golf course.  A snack bar and a restaurant are also located on the park’s grounds.

Chamarel Falls and Colored Earth
Chamarel is known for its colorful landscape and beautiful waterfall.  Chamarel Falls is described by visitors as breathtaking.  It is the highest falls in the Island, with over a 100 meter drop.  It cascades down the cliff with picturesque views of forests and mountains behind it.  Chamarel’s Colored Earth is a rare beauty.  The earth here is shaded in a variety of colors including blues, greens, reds and yellows.  It is thought that the magnificent colors are a result of the volcanic ash. 

Inland

L’Adventure du Sucre
L’Adventure du Sucre, a museum covering 5000 sq meters, fascinates visitors with the rich history of the Island of Mauritius.  The exhibit is in an ancient sugar mill and shows the history of sugar cane and how it is grown.  Visitors can visit the Museum’s tropical boutique to pick up unique gifts and to get a taste of unrefined sugar and local rum.  Visitors can also dine on authentic Mauritian cuisine at the renowned restaurant Le Fangourin.

Botanical Gardens
The botanical gardens are one of the more visited attractions of Mauritius.  Visitors will find a delightful array of tropical plants, palm trees and fish ponds.  The gardens are most known for their spectacular collection of water lilies, named the Green Victoria Water Lilies.

Ganga Talao
Ganga Talao or Grand Bassin is a natural lake found embedded inside the crater of an extinct volcano of Mauritius.  It is a sacred location for Hindu Faith Mauritians.  Each year there is a Hindu pilgrimage to the sight in order for the Hindus to honor the Hindu God Shiva.   Hindus from all over the world come to partake in this cultural ceremony. 

Bois Cheri Tea Factory
The Bois Cheri Tea Factory offers tours to visitors.  Tea is a popular drink in Mauritius, and is most often served with vanilla to help flavor it.

Black River Gorges National Park
Black River Gorges National Park is the largest on Mauritius.  It spans 6574 hectares and was created in 1994 in order to protect what was left of Mauritius’s Native Forests.  The forest is home to stunning waterfalls and amazing panoramic views of its gorges and landscape.  Visitors will enjoy taking a leisure hike through the park.  A visitor center is located in the Park to assist visitors with their visit to the park.
