| Mauritius transport |
| |
| Driving in Mauritius is on the left side of the road. There are a variety of ways for tourists to get around including taxis, buses, car rentals and scooters. Taxi is the choice of most tourists. Hiring a taxi driver for a day is common and inexpensive. Taxi drivers are used to negotiating prices so be prepared to bargain for a better fare than first offered. Drivers generally speak English and/or French and can give you insight on the Island and take you to unique tourist stops. |

Bus transportation on the Island is also extensive. The one drawback is that buses do make frequent stops, so getting from one place to another can take some time. Car rentals are available, but generally are not the top choice for most tourists. Car rentals can be pricey and finding ones way around the Island can be tricky. For the adventurous tourist there are also scooter rentals available. It is best to use caution if riding a scooter, and to practice in low traffic areas before venturing into high traffic ones. |
