Heaven on Earth - Visit Mauritius

Mauritius hotels

Sparkling turquoise ocean warm enough to swim in. Fine white sand. A gentle breeze from nearby palm trees. Five star hotels with staff to meet your every need. Sound like heaven? It is – or at least, it's Mauritius, a heaven on earth.

Luxury holidays to Mauritius have become very popular in recent years – for all of the reasons mentioned above. The island of Mauritius has a tropical climate. Their summer falls between November and May, and they are lucky enough to have a dry, warm winter during the other half of the year. What many people don't realise, however is that the island nation, located just off the south east coast of Africa, has so much more to offer than sun, sea and sand.

Mauritian culture, for example, is varied and exciting. Food is inspired by India, Africa, China and Europe – mixing together to create a fantastic style of cuisine all of their own. The island is also famous for it's rum production – so you'll have plenty to wash your food down with. While you partake in what the island has to offer food and drink wise, you may be lucky to be entertained with one of the island's other key cultural activities; sega. Sega is a style of music that is almost always accompanied by dancers. It has historical roots on the island, and Mauritians are very proud of this aspect of their culture.

For adventurous holiday makers, the island offers a myriad of enviable activities. Many of these centre around the ocean and the coral reef that surrounds the island. Tourists are offered the chance to partake in snorkelling, diving and submarine trips around the reef. For something a little more energetic, water sports are also very popular. In fact, Tamarin Bay on the southwest shore is one of the most famous surfing spots in the world. It breaks quite rarely – but when it does it's said to be legendary!

For less wet sporting pursuits, the island offers golf and tennis opportunities, as well as abseiling, mountain biking and horse riding. Whether you take advantage of the beautiful coast line for these pursuits – or head further inland to the tropical forests – you're in for a real treat.

Of course, at the end of the day you can return to your luxury accommodation to relax. Mauritius is renowned for it's service and hospitality, and this is true of the many hotels and resorts on the island. You'll also be pleasantly surprised by the variety of trendy bars and restaurants available.

If you're looking for a holiday destination that will act as an oasis of calm – look no further. Luxury holidays in Mauritius are truly enchanting, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better location to relax and unwind.
